(Tokyo) Microsoft plans to extend free support period for its Windows XP Home Edition software for at least one year longer than originally planned. Darren Houston, Microsofts Japan unit, told Kyodo, said in an interview that the company will be extended support period, on a global basis, to 2010, from the initial plan in January 2009 , mainly due to strongly urge the Japanese consumer.

"This will be significantly extended," Kyodo quoted Houston said. Officially announced the extension will be made Thursday, he said, according to Kyodo.
